DfT incorrectly labels Motts’ stabilisation plan as ‘incomplete’

From New Civil Engineer:

A senior Department for Transport (DfT) minister has incorrectly labelled Mott MacDonald’s stabilisation plan for Hammersmith Bridge as “incomplete”.

In a letter to Hammersmith & Fulham Council leader Stephen Cowan, DfT under secretary of state Baroness Vere suggests that the £5.82M figure attached to Motts’ plan is “incomplete” as it gives “no allowance for contingency or preliminary costs”.

However, NCE understands that an evaluation of the scheme - carried out by WSP head of civil, bridge and ground engineering Steve Denton - gives a full breakdown of costs and clearly states that of the £5.82M, £1.3M is set aside as “risk allowance” (or contingency funding).
