Hammersmith Bridge at risk of 'catastrophic failure' without urgent repairs

Hammersmith Bridge is at risk of a collapsing unless funding can be secured to carry out “urgent” stabilisation work.
Prime minister Boris Johnson has been warned that without immediate funding the bridge faces “a potential catastrophic failure”.

Johnson was warned of the possibility of collapse in a joint letter from leaders of Richmond and Hammersmith & Fulham councils seen by NCE.

The councils put the cost of stabilisation work at £46M, while the full cost of restoring the 19th century structure is £141M.
