It looks like the double decker bridge is going ahead

Tom Edwards of the BBC reports that the double-decker bridge proposal has been accepted...

The key points are:

  • it would cost around £100m
  • it is proposed that there would be a toll on motorists to help fund it
  • funding has not yet been agreed with the Government.

One has to wonder why you would go to all the complication of putting in a double decker bridge, simply so that a minority of people could drive their cars across. Surely it would be cheaper, quicker and more sustainable to just build a single decker bridge for pedestrians and bicycles?
