The goverment's bailout agreement with TfL, signed this weekend, includes a requirement for TfL to start a temporary ferry service while the bridge is closed to pedestrians and people on bikes.
As part of our deal with TFL, I've required the @MayorofLondon to urgently deliver a temporary ferry to replace the #HammersmithBridge crossing & contribute £4m towards the stabilisation and repair of the bridge, as part of the programme led by the Government's Task Force— Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP (@grantshapps) November 1, 2020
In any other major city in the world, the government would subsidise travel - but of course, because London has a Labour Mayor, there has to be a long battle with Grant Shapps, Boris Johnson et al for a "bailout".
And of course, this will eventually have to be paid for by raising fares.
